The armed conflict in El Salvador from 1980-1992 left over 75,000 thousand civilians dead. Thousands of others were “disappeared,” many of them children. Often, these children were forcibly taken from their families by the Salvadoran military and given up for adoption without their families’ knowledge or consent. Marina Lopez (adopted name Marina Llewelyn) was one of these children. After decades of searching, and with the help of the Salvadoran organization Pro-Búsqueda, Marina reunites with her birth family in her original hometown of Arcatao, El Salvador, for the first time since her disappearance.
